Presented by the ICSM, Royal Holloway University of London in association with the Royal College of Music’s “Singing a Song in a Foreign Land” Oral History Project. This event celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Ben Uri Society, whose musical history involving many émigré musicians is the subject of a current exhibition at the RCM Museum of Music.

Nine short presentations explore the pathways and challenges in locating, researching, revaluing, performing, recording and safeguarding the musical legacy of exiled musicians who fled to Britain from Nazi Europe. The seminar includes presentations on archives of the Amadeus Quartet and Hans Gál. Followed by a round table discussion on what has been achieved and how to proceed, chaired by Professor Richard Wistreich, head of Research at RCM.

Speakers include, Michael Haas, Eva Fox Gal, Bernard Keeffe, Martin Anderson, and Andrea Rauter.

Simon Wallfisch sings songs by Pavel Haas, Erich Korngold and Hans Gál.
