Selecting music for Holocaust Memorial Day always demands a great deal of thought, and generally ends up as a compromise between several competing demands. Most important is the dignity and solemnity of the ceremony itself. but there's also a desire to celebrate those musicians whose lives and careers were affected by the Holocaust in some way, to view them as great musicians rather than victims of oppression, even if they were that also.
