Dr. David Fligg (PtJA Project Consultant) was the guest speaker for the University of Edinburgh’s study day, 'The Edge of Words: The Holocaust in Music and Poetry'. David’s presentation, Defining Gideon Klein – Terezín 1941-1944, specifically addressed issues about memory as archival resource, as well as some of the innovative initiatives now arising from the PtJA project. David also discussed how and why he believes that Klein’s String Trio engages with the Jewish tradition of preserving memory through grand narrative.

Our photo shows David (far right) with students: cellist Gage Ehmann (Royal Academy of Music), violinist Ruth Jacobs (Edinburgh University) and violist Tom Widdicombe (Guildhall School of Music), who performed Klein’s Trio at the start and at the end of the day. The study day also focused on post-war Holocaust Poetry, and the memory of song in Schoenberg’s A Survivor from Warsaw.
