Red Riding Hood: A Children’s Opera

Wilhelm Grosz was a successful composer, performer, and record producer until the rise of the Nazis. Fleeing Berlin for Vienna, he soon relocated his family to the safety of London in 1934. In Britain the composer was prevented from working by the Musician’s Union, so he wrote songs under the name Will Grant, composing Red Sails in the Sunset, Isle of Capri and a dozen more hits. Written in partnership with the popular children’s author Rose Fyleman, Grosz’s children’s opera Red-Riding-Hood is a witty, charming romp through the well-known fairytale, with surprises around the corner. The Sydney Children’s Choir are accompanied by the SSO Fellows, directed by Christopher Harley and conducted by Joseph Toltz.
